Intro to The MEJ-PH5018 Glass pH sensor

The PH5018 Glass pH sensor is a high – performance device designed for accurate pH measurement in a variety of applications.

  • Measurement Principle
  • It operates based on the electrochemical principle, specifically the Nernst equation. The sensor contains a glass electrode with a special glass membrane at the tip. When the sensor is immersed in a solution, hydrogen ions in the solution interact with the hydrated gel layer on the surface of the glass membrane. This interaction leads to the formation of an electric potential difference between the inner and outer sides of the glass membrane. The magnitude of this potential difference is directly related to the hydrogen ion concentration in the solution, which is then converted into a pH value through the built – in signal processing circuitry.
  • Key Features
  • High Accuracy: It has a slope of >98%, ensuring precise pH measurements. The zero potential point is 7 ± 0.5 pH, contributing to its reliable performance in determining the acidity or alkalinity of solutions.
Wide Measurement Range: Capable of measuring pH values in the range of 0 – 14, making it suitable for a broad spectrum of substances, from highly acidic to highly alkaline solutions.
Good Temperature and Pressure Resistance: It can withstand temperatures from 0 to 100 °C (for general cables), and has a pressure resistance of 0 – 4 bar at 25 °C. This makes it applicable in various industrial and laboratory settings where temperature and pressure conditions may vary.
Efficient Installation and Maintenance: With an installation size of PG13.5, it is easy to install. The sensor adopts international advanced solid dielectric and large – area PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) liquid junction, which is not easily clogged and is convenient for maintenance. The long – distance reference diffusion path significantly extends the electrode life in harsh environments.
Stable Signal Output: Made of high – quality low – noise cable, the sensor can output signals over a length greater than 40 meters without interference. It also has a silver ions Ag/AgCl reference electrode, which helps in providing stable and accurate measurements.
  • Applications
  • The PH5018 Glass pH sensor is widely used in multiple industries. In wastewater treatment, it plays a crucial role in monitoring and controlling the pH of effluents to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. It is also extensively used in mining and smelting, papermaking, paper pulp, textiles, petrochemical industry, semiconductor electronic industry processes, and downstream engineering of biotechnology. For example, in the petrochemical industry, it can be used to measure the pH of various chemical reaction mixtures to optimize production processes, while in the semiconductor industry, it helps in maintaining the appropriate pH in cleaning and etching solutions.
